University of Toronto Temerty Faculty of Medicine Housing Guide for Medical Trainees
Founded in 1843 and renamed the Temerty Faculty of Medicine in September 2020, the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine carries a serious kind of prestige. It is one of the world’s leading academic medicine institutions, and for medical students, residents, fellows, and other medical trainees, studying here can feel like stepping into the heartbeat of Canadian medical education — thump, thump, and suddenly Toronto is your classroom.
The MD Program is spread across two distinct campus communities: the historic St. George campus in downtown Toronto and the modern Mississauga campus. New students are assigned to either Mississauga or St. George, and those at St. George are further placed into one of three academy sites: FitzGerald, Peters-Boyd, or Wightman-Berris. Mississauga students are automatically placed with the Mississauga Academy of Medicine. These assignments stay with students for all four years, which makes choosing the right housing location more than just convenient — it can shape daily life, commute time, and even that precious extra hour of sleep.
Four Academies, Many Clinical Learning Environments
- FitzGerald Academy: Anchored by St. Michael’s Hospital, with St. Joseph’s Health Centre, The Hospital for Sick Children, and community agencies supporting clinical learning.
- Mississauga Academy of Medicine: Based around Trillium Health Partners, including Mississauga Hospital, Credit Valley Hospital, Queensway Health Centre, and the University of Toronto Mississauga.
- Peters-Boyd Academy: Connected to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Women’s College Hospital, and North York General Hospital.
- Wightman-Berris Academy: Includes the University Health Network, Sinai Health System, Michael Garron Hospital, and other major Toronto clinical sites.
For trainees rotating through Toronto and the GTA, housing needs can change fast — zip, one clerkship here, another rotation across town. MedsHousing.com is designed specifically for medical students, residents, fellows, medical trainees, and their families who need housing near medical schools, hospitals, and training sites. It is not a service for sick people or patients; it is focused on helping medical professionals in training find practical places to stay while they learn, work, and grow.
Whether you are heading to St. George, Mississauga, Sunnybrook, UHN, Sinai Health, or another affiliated hospital, finding medical student housing in Toronto with access to transit and clinical sites can make the journey feel less overwhelming. Big city, big dreams, lots of traffic too. But with the right home base, life at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine becomes a little smoother, a little warmer, and maybe even a little exciting every morning.
