Description

We will be travelling on sabbatical for the first half of 2027 and are looking for someone to stay in our comfortable home in the NW of Calgary while we're gone. The highlights: - 1100 sq foot bungalow with finished basement - 2 bedrooms upstairs, 1 bedroom downstairs - 2.5 bathrooms - Home office with workspace for two - Large back yard, with firepit and greenhouse & abundant green space nearby - Voted best neighbourhood in Calgary - Easy access to mountains The details: The master bedroom has an ensuite half bathroom and walk-in closet with a queen bed and two bureaus for more clothes storage. The second bedroom at ground level has a kids twin-sized bed and closet storage. The home office has a closet and large desk set up for two workstations. The living room has a cozy gas fireplace, bluetooth stero, and 55" TV. Our kitchen is well appointed as we love to cook, with fridge, microwave, convection oven, stove, air fryer, toaster, instant pot, food processor, dishwasher, coffee grinder & maker, kettle, lots of pots/pans/dishes. The basement bedroom has a queen bed and a small desk (these could be rearranged if you want) and closet for storage. A few steps away in the laundry room is the second full bath with shower. Also in the laundry room is a washing machine, dryer, drying rack, deep freezer and pantry shelving area. The rest of the basement is a large play area with a stationary bike. We have a nice back yard shaded by a big tree with a hammock strung underneath, a large deck, a greenhouse, a fire pit, and one-car garage that exits to the back alleyway. We have lots of house plants but can arrange for them to live elsewhere if you prefer not having to care for them. We are responsible for shoveling the snow from our walkway and the public sidewalk in front of our house and mowing the grass, but if you prefer we can arrange to have a service take care of this (for an extra fee). Travel to the University of Calgary is very convenient, with a short bus/train ride on a reliable schedule (~20 minutes, with 2 minute walk to bus stop), ~10 minutes by car, or ~15-20 minutes by bike. You're welcome to use our 2 commuter bikes. We have the usual utilities which are approx $300 a month, and are not included in the the rental cost: high-speed internet, electricity/heat/water, and waste disposal. The house has solar panels on the roof, but they don't need any maintenance or attention. If you are interested, we can consider an arrangement to rent our cars (older but reliable Mazda 3 and Toyota Corolla). Our neighbourhood of Silver Springs has been been voted best in Calgary with good reason -- our house is surrounded by green space, with a park just across the street, and the Botanical garden and Bowmont Park within a few minutes walk (home to an extensive network of biking, walking, and mountain biking trails and natural areas). We know most of our neighbours and it's a safe, caring, and friendly place to call home. While it's mostly a suburban driving neighbourhood, there's a nice cafe, local grocery store, and convenience store within 5 minutes walk. We do most of our shopping at costco and superstore (~10 minutes drive), downtown is ~15 minutes drive (somewhat longer at rush hour), and getting out of the city to the mountains is quick. We are ideally looking for someone who would stay here for the full 6 month period from January-June 2027 but are open to shorter arrangements. We would prefer to rent furnished but are flexible.
