American Canadian School of Medicine (ACSOM) - Medical Student Housing & Clinical Rotation Housing

Looking for housing near the American Canadian School of Medicine or one of its clinical rotation sites?

The American Canadian School of Medicine (ACSOM) is an international, non-profit medical school based in Picard-Portsmouth, Dominica, offering a four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program designed to prepare students for postgraduate medical training and practice in the United States and Canada.

ACSOM students complete the foundational portion of their medical education in Dominica before transitioning to clinical training at affiliated teaching hospitals in the United States. The school is also developing a growing network of Canadian university partnerships and medical pathways.

For ACSOM students moving between Dominica, U.S. clinical sites and Canadian academic programs, finding flexible furnished housing can be an important part of the medical education journey.

ACSOM began instruction in 2023. Its MD curriculum is structured around approximately two years of foundational medical sciences in Dominica followed by two years of clinical education, primarily at affiliated U.S. teaching hospitals.

🏥 Where Do ACSOM Students Complete Clinical Rotations?

ACSOM has been expanding its network of clinical training sites in the United States.

Current clinical training locations identified by ACSOM include:

Desert Regional Medical Center - Palm Springs, California

📍 Palm Springs, California

Desert Regional Medical Center is part of Desert Care Network in Southern California and serves as an ACSOM clinical training site.

Students completing rotations in the Palm Springs and Coachella Valley region may need furnished short- and medium-term housing close to the hospital for individual clinical rotations or longer blocks of training.

St. Mary Medical Center - Langhorne, Pennsylvania

📍 Langhorne / Greater Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

St. Mary Medical Center is an ACSOM clinical campus serving the greater Philadelphia region.

ACSOM students may complete core and elective clinical rotations here while working alongside physicians and clinical teams in a teaching-hospital environment.

Nazareth Hospital - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

📍 Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Nazareth Hospital is another ACSOM-affiliated clinical training site in the Philadelphia region.

The hospital provides ACSOM students with opportunities for clinical experience across multiple medical disciplines and patient populations.

Additional Clinical Locations

ACSOM has stated that it is continuing to expand its clinical network. The school has previously reported work toward additional clinical opportunities in locations including Florida, Connecticut and Ontario.

Because clinical affiliations can change or expand, students should confirm their individual rotation location directly with ACSOM before arranging housing.

🇨🇦 University of Windsor + ACSOM Medical Pathway

A major new Canadian partnership was announced in September 2026 between the University of Windsor and the American Canadian School of Medicine.

Beginning in fall 2026, qualified University of Windsor students from undergraduate programs can pursue an accelerated pathway toward admission to ACSOM.

Students may complete as little as two years of undergraduate education at the University of Windsor before transitioning to ACSOM, provided they complete the required prerequisites, maintain the required academic standing, successfully complete the ACSOM admissions process and meet the other program requirements.

Under the agreement, at least 50 conditional-admission positions per year are expected to be available to qualified University of Windsor students.

Students who successfully complete the pathway and ACSOM MD program can be eligible to receive both:

🎓 a University of Windsor undergraduate degree, and
🩺 an American Canadian School of Medicine MD degree.

Important distinction

The University of Windsor partnership does not currently mean ACSOM has opened a separate medical school campus in Windsor.

Students begin their undergraduate studies at the University of Windsor in Windsor, Ontario, and then transition to ACSOM's medical program in Dominica.

This should also not be confused with the existing Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry - Windsor Campus, which is Western University's medical program delivered in Windsor in partnership with the University of Windsor.

🇨🇦 University of Waterloo + ACSOM Medical Pathway

ACSOM also has a medical pathway partnership with the University of Waterloo.

The Waterloo-ACSOM pathway provides eligible undergraduate students with a structured route from undergraduate studies at Waterloo toward ACSOM's MD program.

The pathway is designed to allow participating students to complete a University of Waterloo Bachelor of Science degree and an ACSOM MD through a coordinated educational pathway.

🇨🇦 Brock University + ACSOM MD-MPH Pathway

ACSOM has also partnered with Brock University in Ontario to provide an integrated MD-Master of Public Health (MPH) pathway.

Qualified ACSOM medical students can complete an MPH through Brock University before returning to complete the remainder of their ACSOM medical education.

Available MPH options include areas such as:

The partnership also supports academic collaboration, faculty exchanges, conferences and other educational initiatives between ACSOM and Brock University.

🎓 Accreditation & Recognition

ACSOM is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and currently holds accreditation from the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR) as well as provisional accreditation from the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM).

Both accrediting organizations cited by ACSOM have World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) recognition.

ACSOM also has an ECFMG Sponsor Note in the World Directory of Medical Schools. Students considering postgraduate medical training or licensure in Canada or the United States should always confirm the current requirements of the relevant licensing, certification and residency authorities.

🏠 Housing for ACSOM Medical Students

Medical students often move several times during their education.

An ACSOM student's housing needs may include:

🏝️ Dominica - during foundational medical sciences
🇺🇸 Palm Springs, California - for clinical rotations
🇺🇸 Philadelphia / Langhorne, Pennsylvania - for clinical rotations
🇨🇦 Windsor, Ontario - for students entering through the University of Windsor pathway
🇨🇦 Waterloo, Ontario - for students participating in the Waterloo pathway
🇨🇦 St. Catharines / Niagara Region, Ontario - for students participating in the Brock University MD-MPH pathway
📍 Future clinical sites - as ACSOM continues to expand its clinical network

This mobility makes flexible housing particularly important for medical students completing clinical rotations away from their home campus.
