UBC's MD Undergraduate Program-

Four regional Sites:

  1. 32 students in the Island Medical Program (University of Victoria, Vancouver Island) https://imp.med.ubc.ca/prospective-students/
  2. 32 students in the Southern Medical Program (UBC's Okanagan campus, Kelowna)
  3. 32 students in the Northern Medical Program (University of Northern British Columbia, Prince George)
  4. 192 students in the Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (UBC's Point Grey campus, Vancouver)
  5. All students follow an identical curriculum, receive the same education, and graduate with a UBC MD degree

Integrated Clinical Clerkship (3rd year) is based in six different B.C. communities

  1. Chilliwack ICC Program: Fraser Valley
  2. Terrace ICC Program: at Mills Memorial Hospital
  3. Peace Liard ICC Program: (Fort St. John and Dawson Creek) Chetwynd, Hudson's Hope, Taylor, Tumbler Ridge and Fort Nelson *Health services are provided by the North East Health Services Delivery Area of the Northern Health Authority
  4. Duncan Cowichan ICC Program:  Mill Bay, Ladysmith, Lake Cowichan and Nitnat and a large First Nations (Hul'qumi'num) community
  5. Trail ICC Program: Nelson at Kootenay Lake Hospital, KBRH Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital
  6. Vernon ICC Program: North Okanagan VJH Vernon Jubilee Hospital

The Faculty of Medicine provides innovative educational and research programs through an integrated and province-wide delivery model. Through the support of clinical faculty, students receive educational experiences in urban, regional, community and remote settings.

Campus locations include 4 University Academic Campuses:

Students and faculty in the MD undergraduate program are distributed in Years 1 and 2 among University Academic Campuses at UBC's Point Grey campus (Vancouver Fraser Medical Program), UBC's Okanagan campus (Southern Medical Program), the University of Northern BC (Northern Medical Program) and the University of Victoria (Island Medical Program). The University of Northern BC is also the clinical education hub of the Northern and Rural Cohort of the UBC Masters of Physical Therapy program.

11 Clinical Academic Campuses:

Clinical Academic Campuses are large health care facilities that provide a wide range of care or can be highly specialized. The Faculty's clinical research programs are typically focused at Clinical Academic Campuses. Each facility is operated by one of the province's six health authorities, who are critical partners in UBC's effort to increase the number of health professionals in British Columbia.

 

17 Affiliated Regional Centres:

Affiliated Regional Centres are medium sized regional hospitals that can accommodate modest numbers of students, including 3rd and 4th year medical students, medical elective programs, Family Practice programs and some focused specialty programs for postgraduate residents. Faculty of Medicine academic administrative offices and student/resident facilities are provided here. Each facility is operated by one of the province's six health authorities, who are critical partners in UBC's effort to increase the number of health professionals in British Columbia.

 

Community Education Facility & Rural Sites (65+)

These urban and rural sites serve medical students and residents, student audiologists, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists and/or midwives in the community.
