The University of South Carolina School of Medicine, http://www.med.sc.edu was established with the purpose of improving the health of the people of South Carolina through medical education, research and the delivery of health care.The first class of 24 medical students was in 1977.
A newly constructed 50,000 square foot Luther F. Carter Center for Health Sciences Complex in downtown Florence, SC for students to gain the knowledge base and clinical skills necessary to provide quality health care as a primary care physician with an emphasis on rural populations.
